Dark Clouds

As suddenly as a thunderstorm
Strikes on a hot summer’s day,
Flashes of pain sweep over us
Trying to take us away.

A day at a time
We fight on and on,
Until either the pain
Or us are gone.
We smile and pretend
There’s nothing wrong;
Whilst the rest of the world
Sings a different song.

They don’t understand.
They don’t reassure.
They have no idea
What we endure.
They throw us a carrot
Then take it away
And that just helps
The pain to stay!
